marriage and marathons / I’m yours on guitar
The couple had lived together in Los Angeles and the Los Angeles based singer song writer Jason Mraz’s song “I’m yours” is a favorite of theirs so the groom played it for us all. The song and the speech from a friend of theirs, comparing marriage to a marathon, makes for a great opening of the film, a way to lead us into their day.

the flower girl’s mother had her hair done by a local hairdresser but the style was so not her – you can see the bride laughing with her about it as she gets it fixed and then, later on during the party, they discuss the hair disaster.

wedding in miyako island, okinawa
the hotel wouldn’t let us film the actual wedding (this is often the case in Japan) but we had a great time anyway afterwards at the beach and hanging out at an amazing outdoor cafe – I can still taste that banana caramel. the weather was hopeless during the day but that just made the parting of the clouds in time for a stunning sunset at the end that much more delicious!
The next day the couple, Sei and Chie, went to the nearby Ishigaki Island for their honeymoon – where I actually had my honeymoon. I

a fairly typical Japanese hotel wedding. but not your fairly typical wedding movie. have a look. and watch out for when the groom gets a ride on the mikoshi, held up on his friends’ shoulders.
